Ok... sooo... Audition # 1 is coming up on May 10th. Like in less than a week. Its been so many years since I have done musical theater and my performing skills are rusty. I admit this and I have to get into a routine, just like any performer. My perspective might be different. I think my nerves get the best of me and I obsess about rehersing. I have tried to make it a routine, knowing myself.
I have been exercising my vocal chords 1-2 times per day. This makes your voice stronger and works out your singing voice. If you know your music you know it. You'll get more of a range if you practice this.
sing in the shower- i shower at night and since I warmup at night- the steam gets into my lungs and chords and makes my voice sound great.
Take some dance lessons. I started to take adult ballet (yes that exisits!) and it is helping my confidence in my dancing skills. They where always minimal but I had to clear my head, reframe and tell myself I need to start fresh. I look at is as I have never danced before (no one needs to know I had 6 years of tap, ballet, modern and jazz). Shhhh...
sing in front of everyone you can- even if you are confortable or uncomfortable. I sang in front of my hubby tonight who I have been with for close to ten years and still had nerves. Keep singing to people- the more you sing the less nervous you'll be.
sing in front of a mirror! This is great to make sure you can work on facial expressions when singing--- you can also check your posture and make sure you sing with your mouth open--- if you dont sing with your mouth open you arent getting much sound out.
practice breathing- take a yoga class or do meditation laying down in bed. Get the most out of your belly breathes
thats all for now... stay tuned
